The Galactica Continuity developed but never produced by Tom DeSanto
On February
22, 2001, Variety, the
entertainment industry trade magazine, announced that director Bryan Singer (of X-Men movie fame) would be
steering a re-launch of Battlestar Galactica series.
The article went on to indicate that Singer had made a deal with Studios USA to reinvent the series and executive produce it with Tom DeSanto, and that he would direct the pilot if it did not conflict with the shooting schedule of X-Men 2. The producers were hopeful of getting the series a prime time slot on a network, and possibly a dual window scenario with the SciFi Channel.
Ultimately, Bryan Singer left the production to work on X-Men 2. Tom DeSanto continued work on the project for some time, but ultimately the Sci-Fi Channel abandoned this project in favor of Ronald Moore's project, which ultimately became the 2003 Miniseries.
Gradually, details about this proposed production have emerged. There were, of course, several iterations of the Singer/DeSanto project, but the plotline listed below is pieced together from information provided by Tom DeSanto to fans in various settings, and reflects the concept that he was attempting to bring into being when Sci-Fi cancelled the project.
This continuity did not include the sequel series Galactica 1980, nor any of the novels, comics, unfilmed scripts, movie concepts or any fan fiction.

The colonials finally throw off their Cylon pursuers in a great space battle, in which the Galactica, having reunited with the Battlestar Pegasus, faced the largest Cylon challenge since the destruction of the colonies. (Two years after Battlestar Galactica: "The Hand of God")
During this ferocity, the Pegasus was lost, along with Commander Cain, his daughter Sheba, and Bojay, all of whom had returned to serve in her crew. The Cylons suffered an even worse defeat. The cost of this victory was high. When the conflict ended, Apollo was missing in action, his fate unknown.
