Galactica Timeline (Sci-Fi Series)
In January 2005, the Sci-Fi Channel began running its brand new Battlestar Galactica TV Series, picking up shortly after the events of the 2003 Mini-series.
This timeline incorporates the events of the mini-series and the TV series, both of which were envisioned by Ronald A. Moore.
This timeline is under construction.
Timeline
Beginning of Human History
The beginning of recorded human history, on the mother world - the planet Kobol.
2,000 years before the Destruction The Exodus
The original 13 tribes leave Kobol and head out into space. Twelve of the tribes settle near each other in the area known as the Twelve colonies. The remaining Thirteenth tribe heads to Earth. (2,000 years before "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part 1")
Founding of the Colonies
Humanity settles twelve planets of a solar system which later becomes known as the Twelve colonies.
The Creation of the Cylons
The Cylons, a race of intelligent machines, are brought into being. Originally, their role is to make life easier on the Twelve Colonies. But after some time, the Cylons grow to resent their human masters.
56 years before the Destruction
Adama is born (based on age of Edward James Olmos at time of filming).
51 years before the Destruction
Laura Roslin is born (based on age of Mary McDonnell at time of filming).
Over 50 years before the Destruction
The Cylon War The day comes when the Cylons decide to kill their masters. The conflict escalates into a general war between the humans of the Twelve Colonies and the Cylons.
50 years before the Destruction
In the early years of the Cylon War, the Battlestar Galactica is commissioned. It is one of twelve battlestars that are brought into service, each one representing one of the Twelve Colonies. The Galactica is aligned with Caprica.
Over 40 years before the Destruction
An armistice is declared in the Cylon War. The Cylons leave the Colonies and head off to establish a society on another world. A station is built in the remote area of space between the Colonies and the Cylon planet, to facilitate diplomatic contacts. After its establishment, annual meetings are scheduled, but although the Colonials dutifully send their representative, the Cylons do not attend the meetings for 40 years.
Shortly after this, there is a massive demobilization of the Colonial Fleet. Both Adama and Tigh end up getting jobs in the civilian merchant fleet, working on freighters. ("Scattered")
30 years before the Destruction
Lee "Apollo" Adama is born (based on age of Jamie Bamber at the time of filming)
23 years before the Destruction
Starbuck is born. (based on age of Katee Sackhoff at the time of filming)
Boomer is born. (based on the age of Grace Park at the time of filming)
22 years before the Destruction
The Battlestar Galactica travels at Faster Than Light (FTL) speed - something it will not do for another 22 years.
20 years before the Destruction
The last time that Adama saw a Viper Mark II fighter.
Rom Zarek led the Sagittarius Uprising fighting for exploited workers. (20 years before "Bastille Day")
7 years before the Destruction
Sol Tigh and Ellen are married. (7 years before "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I," according to a deleted scene.)
2 years before the Destruction
Apollo's brother Zac is killed. Adama comes to meet Starbuck on a planetside base shortly after.
At the funeral, Apollo sees his father, Adama, who he blames for Zac's death. This is their last meeting for two years.
Gaius Baltar starts a relationship with Six, unaware she is a Cylon operative.
"Current" time
Events depicted in the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries
The Destruction of the Colonies
Caprica is occupied by the Cylons. During a rescue mission to pick up survivors from Caprica, Helo gives up his seat so that Baltar can be saved.
Within a few hours, the Colonial Fleet assembles, and together the ragtag survivors make the first of a series of hyperspace jumps in order to flee the Cylons.
Day 6 - 7
Episode 1 33
(At the start of the episode "33", the Ragtag Fleet has been fleeing the Cylons for 130.35 hours (5.4 days) and shortly thereafter we learn that Helo has been on Cylon occupied Caprica, on the run, for 6 days. These time frames are close enough that for the purpose of this timeline, I will be using the Helo dates as essentially the time elapsed since the Destruction. This episode, "33," covers roughly a 2 day period)
Day 9 - 11
Episode 2 Water
(Episode takes place over two or three days. Part way through the story, we learn that Helo has been on Caprica for 10 days.)
Day 12
Episode 3 Bastille Day
(This episode takes place over a single day. The date is given as Helo's 12th day on Cylon occupied Caprica)
Days 13 and 14
Episode 4 Act of Contrition
(This episode takes place over a couple of days, and the date is given half way through as Helo's 14 th day on Cylon occupied Caprica.)
Days 14 through 16
Episode 5 You Can't Go Home Again
(This episodes takes place immediately after "Act of Contrition" and covers more than a two day period. The search for Starbuck takes well over 46 hours - which was the length of time it took her air to run out. Part way through the date is given as Helo's 15th day of Cylon occupied Caprica.)
Day 17
Episode 6 Litmus
(About 24 hours have passed since the events of "You Can't Go Home Again")
Day 24
Episode 7 Six Degrees of Separation
(About a week has passed since "Litmus." The episode takes place over a short period of time - it takes less than 24 hours to process the photo provided by Ms. Godfrey. Part way through the date is given as Helo's 24h day of Cylon occupied Caprica.)
Day 25 - Day 26
Episode 8 Flesh and Bone
(Episode takes place over a the course of a couple of days within a day of "Six Degrees of Separation". Part way through the date is given as Helo's 25th day on Cylon occupied Caprica. )
Day 28 - Day 29
Episode 9 Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down
(Episode takes place over a couple of days and is set about three days after "Flesh and Bone." Part way through the date is given as Helo's 28th day on Cylon occupied Caprica. )
Day 36 - Day 38
Episode 10 The Hand of God
(Episode make place over about three days. Part way through the episode it states onscreen that it is Helo's "37th day on Cylon occupied Caprica.")
Day 46 - 48
Episode 11 Colonial Day
(Episode takes place over about three days. It states onscreen that it is Helo's "47th day on Cylon occupied Caprica.")
Day 49 - Day 52
Episode 12 Kobol's Last Gleaming - Part One
(This episode takes place over a couple of days. Part way through the episode the date is given as Helo's 50th day on Cylon occupied Caprica.)
c. Day 53 - Day 55
Episode 13 Kobol's Last Gleaming - Part Two
(This episode takes place over about a day. It takes place immediately after "Kobol's Last Gleaming - Part One")
c. Day 56 - Day 57
Episode 14 Scattered
(This episode takes place during less than one day. It takes place immediately after "Kobol's Last Gleaming - Part Two")
c. Day 61 - Day 62
Episode 15 Valley of Darkness
(This episode takes place over about a day. It takes place immediately after "Scattered," and two weeks after Dualla and Billy last saw each other, according to Dualla. They danced in Colonial Day, so this episode is set at least 14 days since then. )
c. Day 69
Episode 16 Fragged
(This episode takes place over an unclear number of days.)
Day 71 - Day 78
Episode 17 Resistance
(The conclusion of "Resistance", when Cally shoots Boomer, is noted as being ten weeks prior to the beginning of "Downloaded". I couldn't get this to jive, however, so I have left it out. It has been suggested on some internet forums that this notation should have stated "ten weeks later" - meaning approximately seventy days after Six was resurrected, was when Boomer was shot. This episode takes place over an unclear number of days, but could be as long as a week.)
Day 79 - Day 86
Episode 18 The Farm
(This episode takes place over an unclear number of days, but could be as long as a week)
Day 88 - Day 90
Episode 18 Home, Part I
(This episode takes place over a fairly short time period. Adama is back in command. Tigh time in charge was not long, perhaps only a length of weeks.)
Day 91 - Day 93
Episode 19 Home, Part II
(This episode takes place over a fairly short time period.)
Day 100 - Day 102
Episode 20 Final Cut
(It seems like there may have been a bit of a break between the events of Home, Part II and Final Cut. In any case, it covers only a few days, and mostly takes place on a single day.)
Day 105 - Day 112
Episode 20 Flight of the Phoenix
(Again there seems to be a gap between episodes. The stealth Viper goes together very quickly, but I still give it about a week. Note: At one point Adama indicates morale is low, because the fleet has been on the run for months.)
Day 176 - 179
Episode 21 Pegasus
(Seems like there may have been a significant gap between Flight of the Phoenix and Pegasus. Things move along pretty quick, but I still give it about five days.)
Day 180 - 184
Episode 22 Resurrection Ship, Part 1
(Cain states in this episode that it's been six months since the attacks. On Colonial One, she asks, "Is this what you've been doing for the last six months?' So, that translates to about 180 days.)
Day 185 - 188
Episode 23 Resurrection Ship, Part 2
Day 189 - 194
Episode 24 Epiphanies
(There is a mention at the start of the episode of being on day 189)
Day 196 - Day 201
Episode 25 Black Market
Day 230 - Day 235
Episode 26 Scar
29 days of mining occur right before this episode.
Day 237 - Day 241
Episode 27 Sacrifice
Day 271 - Day 274
Episode 28 The Captain's Hand
Apollo healed from his bullet wound for a month after Sacrifice, which is established at the start of this episode.
Day 276 - Day 280
Episode 29 Downloaded
(Start of the episode is stated as being nine months since the Destruction of Caprica, but this seems to contradict Resurrection Ship, Part 1 which took place six months after the Destruction of the Colonies. The episode is also noted as being ten weeks after the end of "Resistance" when Cally shoots Boomer - which also doesn't seem to jive with the 29 days of mining before Scar and the month of recovery for Apollo. So, I have chosen to ignore these references after much consideration. The parts of the episode set in the present covered roughly three days.)
Day 282 - Day 284
Episode 30 Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I
Day 285 - Day 667
Episode 31 Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2
episode leaps ahead 380 days part way through
The journey in search of Earth continues..
