Rydell High

On July 7, 2007, I paid Venice High School in Los Angeles a visit.  This is one of the locations where many of the scenes from the 1970's musical Grease were filmed.   Of course, in the movie it was known as 'Rydell High.'

Ok, first here is a picture of Rydell High from the beginning of the movie, which was filmed in the summer of 1977.

And Venice High in July 2007.  The statue and rose bushes are gone, and there's been a new paint job, but it's definitely the same place.

 

A scene from later in the movie, with the boys singing - on the school's bleachers.  This was the 'Summer Lovin' number, as you may recall..

 

Here's those same bleachers, in 2007, from a different angle.

 

And here's another shot from that same scene, filmed at a different place on the school campus..

This area is a little harder to compare, as the lunch tables are now located under a covered area.  However, the older portion of the covering, which is in the right hand side of the above picture, is the structure in the foreground below.
