Emergency! Locations

Station 51

On January 6, 2001 we took a short trip out to the mostly industrial area of Carson in Los Angeles County to locate the fire station that was immortalized by the 1970's TV series Emergency!

The Real Station

Here's the station as it looks today!!

The fire station used for most of the exterior shots in the show is the one pictured above - L.A. County Fire Station #127. Station 127 has a large sign on it dedicating the station to R.A. Cinader, the creator of the Emergency! TV series.

The number of the station in the show was, as you might remember, Station 51, but there was no L.A. County Station #51 until very recently, when the fire station on the backlot at Universal Studios was renumbered, in honor of the TV series. Orange County, California, recently named its new fire station near the Spectrum Center Station 51, also in honor of the series.

The interior shots of "Station 51" were actually filmed at L.A. County Fire Station #36.

Station 127 is located at 2049 East 223rd Street in Carson and Station 36 is at 127 West 223rd Street, also in Carson.

As well, during this trip, we went looking for the fabled "Rampart" from the TV series, the fictional hospital staffed by Doctors Brackett and Early and by the inflappable Nurse Dixie.

The aerial shot to the right is taken from the series, and the shots below are were taken during our visit.

The wide exterior shots of "Rampart" were taken at this location, at what is now known as the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and was formerly known as Harbor General Hospital. Harbor-UCLA is also in L.A. suburb of Carson, not all that far from Station 127.

Just in case you are wondering, the name "Rampart", as well as the name of the firefighters, "Gage" and "DeSoto," were taken from street names in the City of Los Angeles.
