San Diego Trip - November 2001

In November 2001, Janet and Mark and our good friend Quynn Phillips went on a two-day visit to San Diego.

(Note:  There are lots of great websites about San Diego places and attractions, so we have peppered this page with links to external sites.)

The first picture of our trip is of Janet and Mark at a dock near Seaport Village, looking back towards the bridge to Coronado Island.

The second picture is of Quynn at the same place, but this time looking west of the dock to where the U.S.S. Nimitz was moored on that day.   At this point, the Nimitz was a new member of the San Diego based portion of the U.S. Navy Fleet.

Here's a link to the U.S.S. Nimitz Association page.

Later, we went on a Harbor Tour and saw all sorts of other naval ships, including the U.S.S. Constellation and a number of destroyers.

Here's a closer shot of the Nimitz from that cruise.

On our second day in San Diego, we visited the San Diego Maritime Museum.

This picture  is of Janet and Mark on the deck of the U.S.S. Star of India, part of the museum, which is a sailing ship built in 1863.  She is the world's oldest active sailing ship, and during her time at sea made 21 trips around the world.
