Note: Also, in the Space 1999 universe, Yuri Gagarin apparently does not marry Valentina this year, and indeed never marries. (1999: Journey to Where). This is perhaps the first deviation in this timeline from known history.

Yuri Gagarin becomes the first human being to go into outer space. (Contemporary accounts)

Alan Carter is born in Australia. (Space: 1999)

Tony Verdeschi is born in Italy. (Space: 1999)

Maya is born on Pyschon. (based on her age on Moonbase Alpha, and discounting any space warps, etc.)
July 1969
Neil Armstrong becomes the first human being to set foot on the surface of the moon. (contemporary accounts)
Spring 1970
The first confirmed encounter between the people of Earth and a vehicle of extra-terrestrial origin occurs.
This UFO incident triggers a series of secret international meetings, as the world's governments are informed of the definite existence of unidentified flying objects. On the way to one of these meetings, a Rolls Royce containing Colonel Straker and General Henderson is attacked by a UFO. (UFO: Identified, 1970 UFO Annual)
The outcome of Colonel Straker's investigations prove that the UFOs are of alien origin, are hostile, and that they pose a threat.
May 1970 Straker is married. (Confetti Check A-OK - date is speculation)
The international community agrees to work together and create a secret organization to defend against the UFOs. The organization is named Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization and is code named SHADO. SHADO's creation is approved by the United Nations.
July 1970 Straker learns that he is to become a father. (Confetti Check A-OK - 9 months before birth)
April 1971 Straker's son is born. (Confetti Check A-OK)
1972
SHADO heaquarters construction is completed. (speculation from UFO)
1973
Sandra Benes is born. (conventional date in fandom)
1974
Reclaiming of the Sahara Desert begins. (Space 1999: The Last Sunset)
Aliens plot to destroy the United Kingdom by planting a highly destructive bomb in an English farmhouse. (10 years before UFO: The Long Sleep)
80,000 people are killed in Turkey by what is thought to be an earthquake, but was likely a UFO attack. (The Long Sleep - year given.)
1975
According to Straker, racial prejudice is eliminated around this time. Mark Bradley is not as certain. (5 years before UFO: Computer Affair)
1977
Moonbase construction begins. One of the men who helped design the project and work on it is Mr. Bosanquet, father to Sarah Bosanquet. (Six years before "Destruction)
1978
Mr. Bosanquet disappears on the lunar surface, is presumed dead and listed as missing. The aliens are able to capture him and use him to create a telepathic hold over his daughter. (Five years before "Destruction)
1979
Orbiting space junk begins to pose a problem for satellites and other orbital devices (UFO: Conflict)
1980
The secret military organization named SHADO becomes operational. Its purpose is to defend the Earth from a race of Aliens who've been kidnapping humans for body parts.
SHADO's main headquarters is hidden beneath a London film studio. It also has a base on the moon,
known as Moonbase, and a fleet of submarines called Skydiver. Incoming UFO's are initially detected by an Earth orbiting satellite named
Space Intruder Detector or SID. An initial interception attempt is made in space with three Interceptors launched from Moonbase. A second attempt is made in the Earth's atmosphere with a fighter plane (Sky One) launched from Skydiver. Landed UFO's are tracked down with ground Mobiles.
SHADO is run by Commander Ed Straker. His seconds in command are Col. Alec Freeman, Col. Paul Foster, and Col. Virginia Lake. Moonbase is often commanded by Lt. Gay Ellis.

Colonel Alec Freeman is replaced as the number two authority in SHADO by Colonel Virginia Lake. (prior to "The Cat with Ten Lives")
As well, it appears Lieutenant Gay Ellis is no longer assigned to Moonbase after this point. Lt. Nina Barry is promoted to replace Lt. Ellis.
Lt. Keith Ford, Capt. Lew Waterman, and Lt. Joan Harrington also cease to be involved, at least visibly, with SHADO.
UFOs begin a series of attacks in rapid succession, 9 UFOs in about a week (just prior and including "The Cat With Ten Lives")
Miss Holland comes in to cover for Miss Eland, Straker's secretary. (just before "The Cat with Ten Lives")
Venus Probe, having completed its mission, approaches Earth orbit. (just prior to "The Cat with Ten Lives")

The aliens perfect a radar jamming system that allows them, for a brief time, to slip past SHADO's outer defenses. (Just before "Destruction")

1985
Voyager One is launched to probe the galaxy for signs of intelligent life.
Voyager Two is also launched but kills 200 people. (1999: Voyager's Return)
Around this time, the Hawk fighter is introduced as a replacement for the UFO Interceptor. (from early ITC promo for Space: 1999)
1986
The Uranus Probe commanded by Jack Tanner launched and is lost in a proton storm. (1999: Death's Other Dominion)
1987
Global war between races, classes and religions. In the aftermath, a new civilization. finally free of prejudice, begins to emerge. (1999: Rules of Luton)
The Dorfmann artificial heart perfected. (1999: Catacombs of the Moon) Victor Bergman is likely one of the first recipients.
1990
The Aliens that had first begun attacking in 1970, stopped coming to the Earth around 1990. (from early ITC promo for Space: 1999) The civilian exploration of space is now pursued, and Shado's operations are soon ended.
Early in the 1990's
The Venus space station is established; during a resupply mission the scientists are found to have plague & are abandoned. (1999: The Exiles, 1999: The Lambda Factor)
March 1993
When Straker hoped to see three new automated Moonbases in operation on the Moon. (10 years after "Kill Straker")
1994
Nuclear Disposal Area One on the Moon is closed down. (Space 1999: Breakaway)
The Astro 7 mission to Jupiter locked in orbit and lost. (Space 1999: Matter of Life and Death)
Victor Bergman discovers the Planet Ultra. (Space 1999: Dragon's Domain)
Tony Verdeschi is commissioned into the space service (Space 1999: Immunity Syndrome - on screen)
1996
