Christmas 2004

For Christmas 2004, Mark went to Canada and Janet stayed in Orange County.   Why the separate holidays?  Just economics really.  With Janet planning to head up to Vancouver Island in January 2005, we really didn't have enough money to do another trip for both of us - so we decided to send Mark up to Calgary to be with his family.  Jackie and her husband Mike hosted Mark as well as Mark's parents who came in from Penticton to visit.

Janet in the meantime did some volunteer work with our church and visited with our friends the Yeomans for Christmas in Costa Mesa.

Here are some pictures.  Some more will be posted as we locate more .

First picture is of Mark and Janet at home in Irvine just after putting up the tree.   This is the photo that we included with our 2004 Christmas letter.

The text of the letter can be found on this site at our 2004 Christmas Letter Page.

It was certainly a white Christmas when Mark got to Calgary - and it was a chilly Christmas too!  Minus 20 Degrees Celsius.   That's pretty cold!  - it  translates to -4 degrees Farenheit.

That's Mike Martens in the picture below shoveling the driveway.   Note no one else was helping! Brrr.

Later during the trip it got up to + 3 degrees Celsius (or 37 degrees F) - so the temperature definitely varied quite a bit.

Here is Jackie Martens (Mark's sister) and her Mom (Judy Weller) on Christmas morning, unwrapping presents.

Jackie and Mark's Dad (Jack Weller) opening a gift - a coffee table book on classic cars.

And finally - Mark and the Marten's Christmas tree.   Which he actually decorated this year!
