Summer Vacation 2007
Summer 2007 was a complicated one for us - vacation wise.
Passport woes
As a result of changes to the border rules in the United States, for the first time any Canadian traveling by air into the US needed to show their passport when entering the country. Janet needed a new one, and we applied early but it didn't arrive in time for our vacation - so we needed to push things off a few days.
Big Bear diversion
So, since I had already booked my time off, we headed up to Big Bear Lake, California.
We did a number of things, including hiking and paddle boating, and went to see the new Die Hard while we were there. It was pretty humid - for Big Bear - the locals called it "monsoon weather."
When we went paddle boating, we saw an interesting site. This is a miniature pirate ship which has been in all sorts of movies. You may recognize it from the motion picture Time Bandits.
Back in Irvine
Coming back to Irvine, we were disappointed to have no courier package waiting - then, the next day - Janet's passport arrived!!
Finally - Halifax!
We flew to Halifax to see our good friends Janet Lynn and Stephen Yeomans who used to live down here in Costa Mesa. Here's a picture of them at Peggy's Cove.
Being interested in history and politics, Stephen took us to a number of sites - including the Provincial Legislature. Here's a picture of Janet in the Speaker's Chair -
Here's another shot of the Yeomans - Stephen, Caleb and Jessie. It was good to see them again.
St. John's!
After just under a week in Nova Scotia, we then headed to St. John's, Newfoundland to visit with Janet's brother Andrew, his wife Leah and their family and also Janet's Mom and Dad who were also in town visiting..
Here's a picture of the bunch of us picnicking near a light house south of St. John's -
While we were in Newfoundland, we went whale watching. This is about the best picture I got..
And here's a picture of Andrew, Leah and the kids, Kate and Quinn.
And after that we headed back to Orange County - Home again home again. Not sure how many miles we covered but it was a bunch.
